About the event
Few building professionals still need convincing of the sustainable transition. And few are not already engaged in some way with CO2, reuse or circular construction. But how do you turn ambitions into actual practice? Which materials are available today, and how do you tell ecological facts from fables? What about technical properties, applicability, scalability, certification, and above all: cost?
This summer, together with our experts, you'll discover the full spectrum of low-impact building methods, from structure and foundations all the way to the interior fit-out. Across 8 thematic sessions you discover what goes on behind various production processes, which materials you can already use today, how we deal with technical or practical challenges and what opportunities exist to not only control your building cost, but sometimes even reduce it.
Throughout the sessions, physical mock-ups and our proven hands-on teaching style create a dynamic and interactive learning environment, where conversation and exchange take centre stage. The courses combine essential theory with extensive practical examples, and the technical depth of the sessions is tailored to the audience present.
Our Summer School is especially ideal for professionals with some experience who would like to shift up a gear, and for those who want to critically examine the current developments around sustainable construction.
The programme
Day 1
Overview, Methodology & Trends — Introduction to low-impact construction and materials innovation.
Avoid–Shift–Improve in Practice — Sustainability in practice: lessons from real projects.
Day 2
Structure — Strategies for low-impact structural systems. Demolition → Disassembly: Reuse and high-value material recycling.
Day 3
Space Plan & Stuff — Interior partitions and finishes with reduced impact. Biophilic Design — Comfort, health and ecology at the intersection.
Day 4
Site & Skin — Low-impact solutions for the building envelope. Regulatory Framework, Labels & Tools — Measuring and regulating sustainability: a critical overview.
What the training include
→ Four interactive sessions with room for discussion and exchange
→ Critical discussion of sustainable material use in all its facets
→ Introduction to more than 80 low-impact materials, incl. technical aspects and cost. (multiple bio-based, geo-based and circular materials are discussed in detail)
→ Practical examples, tools, documentation and a visit to our materials library
→ Participants receive the course material afterwards
